Elizabeth Treadwell, Instructor
Vision
I hope to contribute to the joy and sustenance the coming generations will find and create through literature, which I define widely. I love to continually develop site-specific, student-centered curricula and practices. I see both education and literature as living collaborations.
Recommendations
My favorite books about homeschooling are Child's Work: Taking Children's Choices Seriously, by Nancy Wallace, and I Learn Better by Teaching Myself...and Still Teaching Ourselves, by Agnes Leistico. I also like Free Range Learning: How Homeschooling Changes Everything by Laura Grace Weldon.
Background
I have an MFA in Creative Writing from San Francisco State and a BA in Native American Studies from UC Berkeley, as well as a Single Subject Credential in English from Cal State East Bay. I am well-versed in online, classroom, hybrid, and one-on-one teaching, and have taught in numerous settings over many years. Most recently I taught 11th grade American Literature at the Oakland School for the Arts and courses including Creative Writing, Critical Thinking, and Freshman Composition at the College of Alameda.
My ninth collection of poetry, Starlit, is forthcoming from Chax Press. My author site is elizabethtreadwell.com.
Students I have mentored have been accepted to UCs, Ivies, and other excellent colleges and universities, and published award-winning books. I enjoy working with students of all ages.
